CLEs--Ways to Reduce Expenses and Get Bigger Bang for Fewer Bucks

For many bar associations, CLE has been one of the biggest sources of non-dues revenue, but as more and more outside organizations are offering low-cost or free options to obtain needed credits, it has been harder for bar associations to compete and keep a healthy profit center. The Wake County Bar Association offers all of its CLE programs as a free member benefit, and has expanded to more than 50 hours of free CLE for a budget line of less than $5,000. We’ve done it through smart partnerships, and thinking through how to meet our members’ needs where they are, and outside of the box ideas that can cut costs. In this Small Bar Town Hall meeting, we will discuss some of the ways that we were able to lower expenses while increasing the value to members. We’ll also open the floor to other cost-saving ideas and methods that our fellow small bars have used to get the most bang from their buck, particularly in terms of CLE offerings.
