NABE Professional Development Committee Needs Your Ideas
The NABE Professional Development Committee will gather March 15-16 in Chicago to plan the NABE 2019 Annual Meeting scheduled for August 6-8, in San Francisco. Got an idea for a topic for a plenary session or breakout, for a speaker who you know will wow the NABE audience, or for an innovative format you’d like NABE to try? Now is the time to speak up. Click on this link to provide your input to the committee. Information submitted by March 6 will be considered. And, if your idea doesn’t make it to San Francisco, fear not…programming ideas also will be shared with other NABE programming entities and may show up in other workshops and in NABE webinars. Thank you for your input!

Save the Date for Law Day 2019
Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society is the theme of this year’s Law Day, held every year on May 1 to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. Law Day 2019 focuses on these cornerstones of representative government and calls on us to understand and protect these rights to ensure, as the U.S. Constitution proposes, “the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.” The ABA encourages grade schools and universities to integrate this year’s theme in their curriculum and school activities. Communities are also welcome to join in on Law Day activities at their local libraries, museums, youth and senior groups, and other organizations. NABE Awards Take New Direction
The NABE Board approved changes to the NABE award process and to the frequency of presentation. While the NABE/LexisNexis Community and Educational Outreach Awards will continue to be presented every year, the board decided to present the Bolton Award and the Peer Excellence Award every other year. The Bolton Award, NABE’s highest honor, will be presented on August 9, 2019, at the NCBP/NABE/NCBF Joint Luncheon in San Francisco to an individual who epitomizes professional excellence. The Peer Excellence Award will next be presented in August 2020 in Chicago and will recognize an individual who has made special contributions to the development of his/her bar executive peers. New this year, award nominations may include video which helps to support the nomination. On the nomination form, just include the URL link for your video posted on your website, YouTube, or another appropriate site. Award Nominations for the 2019 Bolton Award and the 2019 NABE/LexisNexis Community and Educational Outreach Awards must be received by 11:59 p.m., Central, April 5, 2019.
