Effectiveness Disconnect
“Volunteers are crucial to an association’s success: Board members are typically uncompensated, and bylaws usually require the creation of several standing volunteer committees. But despite building volunteering into the core of their work, associations are often uncertain about what role volunteers are supposed to play and how to measure their effectiveness,” says Mark Athitakis, a contributing editor for Associations Now. He discusses research from the American Society of Association Executives that identifies a distinct disconnect around volunteer effectiveness here.

Further DEI Direction
Are you looking to implement a new diversity, equity & inclusion action plan? Do you want to revamp your existing plan or counsel members on where to start with their own DEI plans? The National Council of Nonprofits offers resources on how and where to get started, including the questions to consider when creating a DE&I action plan.

Share Your Fun Bar Projects with NCBP
The National Conference of Bar Presidents (NCBP) is presenting a workshop that will highlight successful “fun” projects created by state, local, and specialty bars at its 2023 Annual Meeting. These "fun" projects are meant to encourage member involvement and participation, generate enthusiasm and show the social side of bar membership. If your bar has a successful, fun project or program that you would like to brag about and believe can be used by other bars, please contact Angus Macaulay, past president of the South Carolina Bar. Be sure to provide the name of the program, its purpose, and contact information for further details. Any pictures, promotional materials, etc., that can be included in the workshop presentation are appreciated! Please provide your input on or before June 3rd.
